20. What is the possibility to get Jobs in the hotel and tourism sector in Bangladesh if I study this subject?

 ● The possibility is really very high. There are more than 15-20 five/four star hotels in Bangladesh and more than 10 new five star hotels will be in operation in the next 2/3 years where thousands of employments will be created. There is an extreme shortage of trained and educated human resources in this sector so that employment is absolutely available than any other field.  

21. Why it is prospective than any other subject to get the Jobs? 

● In Bangladesh we have many sectors like Garments, Lather, Banks, Insurance, Textile, Telecommunication and many more. And the graduates in many relevant subjects are available to apply for the Jobs in these sectors but there is scarcity of Jobs this is why we have more than 200 million Unemployed educated youths. But the hotel and tourism sector is distinctive than any other sectors. The situation for employments is reverse to other sectors. In this sector there are huge jobs but there is shortage of trained and educated youths to apply. This is the reason it is really prospective to get a job than any other sector if any one study hotel and tourism related course.

 22. What is the hotel & tourism industry’s position in the world and its’ growth status?

• The flow of tourism around the world is assuming striking dimension. Growth of tourism industry will be unstoppable in the 21st century. Globally the tourism industry will continue strong growth of about 4% a year through the first two decades of the current century.

The United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) has also predicted that the 21st century will see a higher percentage of total population travelling, specially in developing countries, and people will be going on holidays more often  – sometime two, three or four times a year. The forecast predicts that by 2020 one out of every three trips will be a long-haul journey to another region of the world. Long-haul travel is expected to increase from 24% of 1995 to 35% in 2020 in all international destinations.

Today the tourism and travel account for the largest portion of money spent in international commerce. The never-ending process of tourism, presently acclaimed to be the largest service industry in many countries, is very much on the rise globally. Billions of dollars are being transacted through tourism. International tourism receipts are projected to increase more than fivefold between 1990 and 2010 to reach US$ 1350 billion. This correspondence to an average annual increase of 8.6%. If we look into some of the statistics, it will be rather astonishing:

1. The number of international tourist arrival has risen from 25 million in 1950 to 842 million in 2006. International tourism receipts reached US$ 680 billion in 2005 (Euro 547 billion), making it one of the largest categories of international trade. This trade volume equals or exceeds that of oil exports, food products or even of cars and transport equipment.
2. The number of foreign tourists in India is 400 million (approx. January 2007) with an increase of 13% from previous year, and domestic tourists are 300 million with a growth rate of 15-20%. Foreign exchange earning from tourism in 2005 was 230 billion rupees (5.7 billion US$), clocking an increase of 20.2% from 2004.
3. In India, about 42 million people (8.78% of total employment) are engaged directly or indirectly in the tourism business which is definitely a lesson to learn.

From the statistics above shoes again why tourism is the largest service industry globally; new scope and opportunities are flourishing everyday. If we do not start now, we will be left far behind by all around us. The World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC) measures that by 2011, the travel and tourism economy will constitute: 11% of global GDP; support 260.5 million jobs worldwide, which is 9% of total employment or 1 in every 11.2 jobs.

23. Is there any Industrial Attachment facilities if we study at this institute?

• Yes, Industrial Attachment is mandatory for every ITHM Diploma students whatever is their filed of study. Attachment is made based on the result, performance in practical and the requirement from the respective hotels/motels/restaurant/travel agency/tour operator/resort, etc. After successful completion of the attachment trainees need to submit a report in writing to qualify for the final course ending certificate from the Institute. Here is noteworthy that this is the ONLY institute in Bangladesh which has created example providing industrial attachments of its’ each and every students who studied at this institute in the last 4 years.

24. Is there any Industrial Attachment facilities in overseas countries?

• Yes, this is first time in Bangladesh the Institute of Tourism and Hotel Management has created opportunities for its’ students to do their Industrial Attachment in overseas country. This institute has made partnership for its’ students industrial attachment and job placement with Bonnington Jumeirah Lakes Towers Hotel (An Irish hotel group operating hotels in Dublin, London and Dubai), Dubai, UAE. This hotel visited the institute two times in April and October in 2010, directly interviewed the students and recruited a number of 11 students. The selected ones got 3 years Dubai Residence Visa arranged by the hotel. For overseas industrial attachment the students get FREE accommodation, food, transportation, medical and receive minimum AED 500 as the stipend. Also they are entitled to receive the tipping from the very beginning and proportion of service charge after 3 months of their joining. The trainees get opportunity to become permanent staff of the hotel after 6 - 12 months of their successful attachments.

25. Do you arrange any local Job placement of your graduates?

• Yes, we do. Employment opportunity in tourism and hospitality sector is increasing every day here in Bangladesh, too. Our graduates who like to stay in the country and serve and build up their career, we are providing them with the best job opportunities locally. Already our graduates are working in The Westin Dhaka, Hotel Victory, Washington Hotel, Dhaka, Nandos (South African Food chain), and many of them are in pipe line to join in resorts like: Shah Ali Golf Resort, JRL Elenga Resort, Foy’s Lake Resort, etc. We are assuring jobs for our graduates who will at least complete Diploma successfully. We are providing all counseling services and refer our students for job placement.  The students who have been graduated in 1^st to 7^th Batches all of them have been given job placement by the institute.   

26. Do you arrange any International Job placement of your graduates?

• Yes, we arrange the International job placement of our graduates. We bring the employers, owners, senior executives of the hotels of foreign countries at the institute premises in Dhaka and they take face to face interview of the students. If the graduates are selected then upon the instruction and assistance by the hotel the institute handles the Visa process of the graduates. Last year in 2010 a number of 2 Graduates have been selected by the Bonnington Jumeirah Lakes Towers Hotel, Dubai, UAE and they have got 3 years residence visa for Dubai. Residence Visa of Dubai is a very good category visa and any holder of this kind of visa can switch to other companies for better career. 

27. What are the Hostel facilities you offer? • ITHM provides modern apartment houses as hostel and private mess facilities for the students from outside Dhaka. Charges are very reasonable: for accommodation (4 persons sharing room) and food =Taka 3,500/ a month and accommodation (3 persons sharing room) and food = Taka 4,000/ a month.
